That is why CAIRS provides two different work order systems from which to choose: Open Work Order, or closed Assignments.

Open Work Orders - In the open work order system, you can divide a work order into pieces related to each job center and electronically send the work order from job center to job center until it is completed and closed. Work orders can be put on hold, canceled or rejected to a pervious basket with attached reasons for the rejection. Administrators can see how many work orders are open and what their status is in each workbasket.

Assignments (closed work orders) - The assignment system is ideal for sites that will only have a handful of users working on the database. Assignment system can be simple or complex to meet your sites needs. If an individual starts and completes a work order in one session, you will probably want to use the Assignment option. In this option, CAIRS labels a work order an "Assignment" because cables and pairs, directory information, switch characteristics, equipment, and inventory items are assigned are committed at the end of each work order session.
